Deirdre is an intuitive artist who blends various media to craft distinctive and lively abstract artwork. This intuitive artistry commences with a heartfelt connection, allowing colors to fluidly manifest onto the canvas. Through this process of playful exploration, she taps into emotions that guide her towards uninhibited expression. The resulting energy transmutes into a universal message, conveyed through her artwork and words.

Based in the picturesque downtown area of sunny Santa Barbara, she draws inspiration from her serene and peaceful lifestyle as both an artist and poet. 

Regularly engaged with the local art community, Deirdre participates in events such as the Santa Barbara Artists and Craft Show (SBAACS) where she shares her art and spreads positivity. She is actively involved with esteemed institutions like SBAA, Gallery 113, Faulkner Gallery, Carpinteria Art Center, Voice Gallery, and other regional art venues.

In her free time, Deirdre enjoys leisurely walks through farmers markets, exploring nearby parks, trails, beaches, cycling, and walking dogs.

How did I become an artist?

Everyone has a story… Here's mine!

My artistic journey began in childhood, fostered by a deep connection with my artist father. Growing up in the 1970s, we explored drawing, drafting, building, crafting, and gardening, cultivating a profound appreciation for nature and imaginative expression.

I earned a BA in Psychology from Rutgers University in New Jersey. Shortly after, I moved to Denver, Colorado, finding inspiration in the majestic Rocky Mountains and their native landscapes. Throughout my diverse professional life, including a period as a preschool teacher, my creative passion remained central. I designed engaging and enriching classroom environments, incorporating art, sensory experiences, and literacy to enhance children's learning. At home, this passion manifested in handmade gifts, gardening, home décor, and even an Etsy shop.

In 2018, a diagnosis of Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer profoundly shifted my focus toward art, poetry, and spirituality. This period marked the birth of Sacred Art, which became integral to my healing. Drawing and writing evolved into daily meditative practices—a free-flowing release of emotions that organically led to beautiful designs and heartfelt poetry. This creative momentum guided me toward a new path on the West Coast.

In 2021, I made the courageous decision to relocate to Santa Barbara, California, to fully immerse myself in a life dedicated to art, poetry and animals. Today, I continue to explore Intuitive Art, finding liberation in the transition to painting. I am committed to pioneering new creative avenues, taking brave steps toward a life of authenticity and freedom. I am now a healthy and vibrant artist, poet, and nature & animal lover, thriving in Santa Barbara.
